Since I already had a domain purchased through godaddy, all that was suppose to happen was to point my DNS records at weebly's IP. It took a while for them to update and having to clear my cache I was finally able to get to the new Top-Hat-Sec site. The issue now was the forum. We cant forward or point DNS records to folders. The issue was, we had the forum still being hosted by godaddy, with godaddy's IP. I then had to make another install of the THS forum to a new subdomain forum.top-hat-sec.com and then do a restore to hopefully restore all of the data in the forum. The forum has been a massive part of THS. Its home sweet home for our members and its packed full of valuable information, tutorials, etc. A big lifeline for us. Losing the forum would mean starting over and that would be a hard thing to deal with.
So when you work with DNS records, you can point them to subdomains which is why we created forum.top-hat-sec.com. So the forum now is still pointing at godaddy and the main site is pointing towards weebly. Because I made backups of the forum, it backs up its location, its install paths etc. So restoring that database into a new location (the new subdomain) was a royal pain. Not to mention some of my backups were corrupt, which I did not know until I attempted to restore. It took about 3 or 4 restores to get the forum back to normal. Also...those of you who want to use Simple Machines Forum as a forum option. They have a script called repair_settings.php. Yeah...Don't ever use that, it did not work and I could not get the database to connect with SMF regardless of what path settings I changed or whatever. Anyhow, it only took a day to fix instead of weeks. In the long run the forum was restored and the day was saved by the IT Gods.
So we have a new beginning now. A nice fresh looking main page, and of course the ol' forum. We hit it off with a series of new metasploit classes which are going great. Thank you all for your loyalty. Aaaarrrrr mates....we sail the cyber-seas once again!
